Staring the adventure …

Early 1982 or there around, I started professionally with computers in an OEM Digital in New Jersey, when Microsoft was in the beginning and it wasn’t pretty sure if Digital Research’s CPM-80 , Microsoft’s DOS or a Russian DOS version would become the World standard, beyond others.

Joining Internet ….

In 1995 I joined the Internet adventure with the first website called eurohotels.com and discovered that after one month the web pages have been viewed 45 times. Not a great success for my commercial goals, but at least a success, until I discovered that 30 visits out of the 45 were mine.

At this point, I started over to think how to get people on my website, the great player at that time was Altavista, and I started over to study something we call today SEO or Search Engine Optimization, nearly unknown in those years.

A little Marketing experience, out of my studies, made me ask too, what will the potential visitor understand out of the content I placed on the websites, as after some time, it was not only me to visit my website, someone else lost himself in the net. So I started over to build different versions of the same content, today called „ Versioning „, part of the branch called Internet Marketing.

Well the thing grew up to a nice success and the entire company swapped in it’s turnover from 100% travel agencies to 90 % internet customers ( we sold hotel rooms as a whole seller ) and we got a fantastic search engine rankings, even on the fast rising newcomer Google.

The first Intranet …

At this point Dunia LLc was born , as we implemented in 1997 / 1998 intranet technologies , in order to communicate between customers, hotels and local representants, thus building a huger network on internet connecting more than 12.000 operators. I went completely involved in planning , execution , processing capacities of this network, as well as the teaching and the implementation of the same, and by the way it was highly interesting as artificial intelligence was involved, I called that thing there Elsa systems.

In any case Internet Marketing as well as SEO continued to be a primary duty, as I had to feed the Hotel Reservation Company running now Eurohotels.com and another 300 domains, continuously with visitors to be converted to buyers, and the development of the Elsa Systems enhanced this even, as we started over to produce / update our websites directly serverside. It was nearly impossible to transfer at that time a compressed website of 1.4 Megabytes by ftp, guaranteeing a regular update on more than 300 domains.

Well, life is interesting and the „ Twin Tower disaster „ killed completely the travel sector in particular the niche „ to find hotel rooms in absolute high season, when no rooms were available „, well now plenty of rooms were available, no reason to continue the hotel business in those terms, and no reason to swap over to do it the „ Expedia „ typed style, as I had not the financial ressources to enter such a competition.

IT R&D, Internet and Marketing …

Definitively I concentrated 100 % on IT, Internet, new technologies and internationalization of companies starting up their adventure on Internet. Well noone cares but your back office needs to know the difference between treating an Italian customer or a German one, if you want to have success.

Same is valid on your front end, so your website… Where an Italian visitor will just smile about a typing error, a German will state you are just unreliable.

One of the best markets turned out to be Egypt, and accordingly I opened in Cairo Research and Development in the IT area, and the same moment I rebuild company assets and procedures in some major Egyptian Travel enterprises. To make the turn complete, I went over in teaching Internet Marketing and SEO too, as I needed people to do what we did before on behalf of eurohotels.com. One of the nicest experiences were some workshops I held in Cairo university, I was surprised about the high level of competence and interest even students in their 2^nd year could demonstrate.

Things began to turn out wildly, I became a founding member of the I.O.E.T.I. Association, (International Organization of the Electronic Travel Industry), where I’m still the vice president between other things, the IT development came out with new technologies and applications under the clickoweb project, SEO activities run over, so I had to open another office and start teaching and buildup future SEO specialists. As high qualified work craft became a critical ressource , even in a 21.million area as Cairo, I had to find a partner in India to backup the IT development in Cairo, and I found a good one with Sagar.

The Clickoweb / Clickofono Technologies …

Well today, we have developed, tested and opened clickoweb.net the first industrial internet marketing, web design, W3C self-correcting, versioning, language translation, SEO (do you want me to continue ) tool, allowing to cut drastically Internet Marketing and Design costs, by enhancing productivity and quality.

Accordingly I open / maintain the contacts with all those companies which need those tools for their customers in order to setup an international network, allowing a standard approach to these problematics, but include all the local aspects of the origin countries, we have to include to make the difference between success and unsuccess of a whatever internet website. Remember please, it is the visitor of the internet site to purchase the product, not the Search Engine Spider.

Still involved in Research and Development, as the new frontiers as „ Semantic Web „ as well as voice interaction are the next generation goals to be fulfilled in order to remain competitive and interesting.

private Hotels in the city of Dresden regularly.

The scope is to see the different behaviours regarding links and evaluation in time of keywoord trends

Well I could identify an issue on Clickoweb technology regarding Microsoft IE :

I imported a page from on clickoweb.net from the wordpress blog cremagliera.com using either firefox google chrome or safari.

All went fine and rendered as it should be , but as a great surprise using IE 7/8 nothing rendered except the green background and some heading, thenafter even the html code stopped to load and the page did not render.

Analyzing the original code, the rendered code by IE and the other browsers I could identify:

” <!–[if IE 6]> ….  <!–[endif]–> ”

and some further jscripts having the <!–[if IE 6]> conditions.

Accordingly I guessed, that the java script of the page went in execution even if this has been programmatically avoided, as the page is loaded over ajax as HTML, which prevents such execution (here I have to inquire a bit more, as this is the first time I meet such a condition)

In any case I found the procedure to follow in those cases :

Just use Internet Explorer to import the page (even if very slow), this way it loads the parts regarding the internet explorer wrappers and renders under Internet Explorer as well as on the other browsers.

Unfortunately this procedure is to be done on every page you import this way, so in case you have a source to be imported which contains <!–[if IE 6]> conditions, you have to import those pages with internet explorer.

I do not see , at the current stage any possibility to modify the spider the way to avoid this conditional bug, as this would mean to buildheavy duty jobs, which will not allow execution in within the browser timeout frame.

Sorry for that, any suggestion is welcome
